The Zoo is in Town

When Edgar the Elephant, Wallace the Whale and Bradford the Bird made their grand entrance at the last Fragment event we knew that they were too much funky fun to let go. So with the slick guidance of Pancake Zoo caretaker Shawn Chen, we built a little home for them here at TOKYOMADE.

Shawn and his crew of critters have come to settle in Tokyo after being on tour in Melbourne, Australia. Popular with the street style lovers down under, the Pancake Zoo pieces can be found in independent boutiques in Melbourne and now on TOKYOMADE.

Each piece has been lovingly hand created by Shawn in his bedroom. Cast out of polyurethane with a metal finding attached to the back. Preferring to hang out on clothes, bags, and maybe even hats, they need to go to good homes.

Jelly Love

We are big fans of acrylic and resin here at TOKYOMADE. Designers such as Lissita, Honey Bunny, BLITZ Kiss and Tiny Azure rock our world with their unique use of the alluring epoxy. After receiving a super cool email from a TM friend today it seems there are plenty of other jelly lovers out there.

Glowing Doll is the name of an online shop and blog created by a super crafty, jelly loving designer in the UK who also happens to be a TOKYOMADE fan. Check out her posts about Fashionable Food, the over sized glasses trend and TM of course!

Thanks Danielle!

Beyond Origami

Paper art is a tradition long treasured in Japan. The ancient Japanese art form of origami creates form and wonder using a small number of folds to create objects. In more recent times contemporary paper art forms have emerged in Japan.

At this year's Design Festa we were pleasantly surprised by the number of new paper craft artists, both Japanese and International, displaying their fine art.

Yasutaka Matsumoto
stood out from the crowd with his quirky and solid paper and card characters. Matsumoto's booth displayed his outstanding ability to create personality filled figures from diversely patterned and colored paper.

The new style of Japanese toy or figurine. Unlike his vinyl play mates, the paper figurine is hand constructed using a multitude of patterned papers and card. Precise connection of the colors, papers and shapes creates the playful forms and personality filled figures.

Each paper toy is a one of a kind personality. Yasutaka Matsumoto constructs 3D figures and characters using Illus board, bond, clue and various craft papers.

Souvenirs from NYC

From the French we use the word souvenir to describe a treasure or gift that is picked up as a memento or keepsake from a time spent in another country, state, space or area. In Japanese the gifts, keepsakes and edibles brought back from a trip away are known as omiyage.

On a trip to New York, designer of the Souvenir brand Emi Nagaoka stumbled upon the most fascinating pieces that she felt truly symbolized New York. Instead of hiding them away in a box or cupboard she decided to share her New York omiyage with the world. The Souvenir label is an eclectic mish mash of NYC treasures saved in over sized resin pendants. The concept of the brand is to share pieces and symbols from another city, New York City, with global style lovers and souvenir collectors.

Each hand made accessory is a one of a kind collection of antique keys, buttons, vintage cloth, lace and other trinkets collected over a lifetime of adventures in New York. All hand made in Japan.
