Honmonoya designer Chieko Hata was recently in Tokyo for a quick visit and offered us the most amazing one of a kind pieces that I squealed with delight when Masao opened up the package and showed them to me.
With one of the three pairs of tabi boots reconstructed by Hata San already sold, these one of a kind boots are being snapped up like cute cupcakes at a bake sale.

This gorgeous pair of hand created traditional navy blue, mid calf Tabi toe boots have been given authentic Wa treatment by Honmonoya. The inside of these boots have been lined with bold red and white vintage Japanese fabric showing off the Honmonoya red label. These boots can be worn at full length or folded down to show the rich red inner lining.

These boots fasten at the back from the heel to mid calf with 12 clasps each with a Japanese kanji on them meaning - The power of a King. The clasps can be hooked at three different widths to expand or contract the fit of the boot.

A trip out into the Tokyo shopping jungle can often be overwhelming. Searching for new season clothing and accessories on any given weekend can end in either giving your bank account or body a major battering. With close to 13 million people calling Tokyo home the shopping meccas on holidays and weekends can literally feel like you are in the front row of a death metal concert; the noise, the human traffic, the occasional head banging.
While I adore the feel of the fabrics, the smell of new bags, the glam of the Tokyo stores and never ending examples of fashion mix ups on display what I don't enjoy is jostling to get out of the station, pounding the scarily overcrowded pavements, lining up to try anything on and having to say 'sumimasen' (excuse me) 354 times.
Recently I have been thinking there has got to be a better way to search for all of the styles and wardrobe updates needed as the seasons change without hitting the streets of Shibuya and Shinjuku during the weekend rush. What I was about to discover was the end of all my Tokyo fashion finding worries.

ZOZOTOWN is a virtual Tokyo (the site is in Japanese but still easily navigated - we would be happy to help you out if you need it). This immaculately designed site is Tokyo without the crowds. ZOZO have gathered together many of the Tokyo street fashion big guns and created a virtual town in which to house them.

Discrete Bags creator Sonja de Boer entered 6 designs in this year's UT Grand Prix comp run by UNIQLO. Selected from 13,206 designs that were submitted from around the world, Sonja's Royal Uniqlo design has made it to the topp 1,000 that have been shortlisted by the UT Selection Committee.

Sonja's design along with the 999 others are being publicly judged on the UNIQLO site. Play your part in the battle of the designs by voting for your favorites. Two t-shirt designs are shown at random, complete with cheering crowd sounds effects. To vote you need to click on the design you like best. The 100 designs with the highest winning percentage will be selected as semifinalists.

"Grand Prix will be awarded to one design. Additionally, a total of 30 prizes, comprising Judge’s Choice and UT Top Selection awards, will be given. All 31 of the awarded designs will be commercialized and sold as a T-shirt by UNIQLO."

Apart from the influx of rats in Shibuya, yes rats (There are two conflicting arguments for why the rats are heading on up to the street a) the latest earth wobbling underground construction b) rats are intuitive creatures and can feel a big earthquake coming! I say regardless of the reason we call in the Pied Piper!) Tokyo is bubbling with events and happenings as always.

- TONIGHT is the Tokyo Art Beat 3rd year anniversary (Masao has just left for the event while I stay at home all cozy)

- Also at Super Deluxe on Monday night is the Pecha Kucha Tokyo night. I will not be staying at home for that one, plan to get there early for a good spot!

- The Tokyo Decadance team are planning a freakishly fun Halloween night at the Warehouse, October 20.

- Dr Sketchy's Anti Art School Tokyo is helping the freaks come out too this month. With a ghoulishly, wicked sketching session lined up at the Pink Cow , Shibuya - Wednesday, October 24.

Hanjiro is taking over this city and we couldn't be more excited. The fashion recycling and reconstructing specialists are due to open up a new store in the heart of Shibuya this November.

A journey through any of the 10 nation wide Hanjiro stores is always full of fashion and interior design surprises.

Statues of Jesus and Mary submerged in a fish tank lit by a disco ball, awesome retro and 80s finds, reconstructed treasures and the most divine chandelier collection are just some of the treats on offer at Hanjiro.

Definitely a mighty task to leave Hanjiro empty handed. Masao came home with an awesome Hanjiro made package yesterday.

What are you wearing this year?

We have been busy singing karaoke and having amazing parties where all of friends come to see what the TOKYOMADE creators have been up to recently. Yesterday afternoon was the first of what we hope to be a string of successful Sunday afternoon events for LADE clothing and TOKYOMADE.

We got off to an early start as we rolled into And Zone Shinjuku at 10am, extremely early for a Sunday morning post Saturday night karaoke. Meeting up with the LADE guys, Eshimasa, Tomokuni, Michi, Cometman and Machie we all got to work splashing, colorful, creativity and products on the white walls of the gallery.

The open plan gallery was really perfect and things fell into place smoothly with each designer having their own piece of wall with enough room to showcase some hot street wear labels from Canada, a projection space, TiFdyL live painting and a super fresh dj area pumping out some mighty fine tunes during the 8 hour set.

To make things even easier And Zone is a divided space with the gallery on one side and a very cozy lounge serving some top veg curry on the other.

A huge thank you to everyone that was able to come and celebrate with us and LADE clothing, without you our Sunday afternoon would not have been half as enjoyable. A special thanks to Eshimasa, Tomokuni, Michi, Cometman, MacBag, Sci-Fi, Ichigo Seijin, Tiny Azure, Shojono Tomo and Ryo Honda for being part of the TOKYOMADE collaboration/ family.

We realized yesterday that in a few short months TOKYOMADE has grown into something so much more that we originally imagined it could be. TOKYOMADE has become a collective of talented, inspirational and positive artists that share their creations, but more than that we have become an international group that shares life and laughs and that is more than we could ever have hoped for.

Of course the biggest thank you must go to the LADE clothing trio, their partners, friends and family for their vision, hard work and for inviting us to be part of a very rad Sunday afternoon. We are very excited to be apart of many more events just like it.

The Halloween edition of Dr Sketchy's Tokyo was a spooky spectacular.

Goth beauty and stirring strength oozed from Akiko's on stage poise. The professional singer and performer stunned the audience with her rendition of Mozart in a truly powerful vocal performance, bringing a new and spine tingling element to Dr Sketchy's Tokyo.



Leila kept the sketchers entertained as the new Dr Sketchy's Tokyo MC.

Masao and friends of TOKYOMADE set up camp at the back of The Pink Cow and sat around swapping ghost stories.

It is with super duper excitement that we introduce a new comer to the TOKYOMADE family - Shojonotomo and her intensely funky range of fashion under the Enoc Douter brand.

The brand name Enoc Douter is neoterized with boar and daughter. Shojonotomo says
Enoc Douter products feature her very own do-it-without-thinking, no rules style of art.

We first spotted the colorfully collaged fashion in the Marui store in Shinjuku and then again at Spank! in Koenji.
