Part of the ultra cool joy that we get from this whole TOKYOMADE life party thing is having the chance to see and feel apart of the artistic creations that are going on around this city of ours.
An even greater reward is the people that have come into our lives since TOKYOMADE began. We put a whole lotta lovin' into our baby TM but what we get back is something far greater than we could have ever hoped. We get to work with, hang out with and share with some of the most talented, creative and dedicated souls in the industry! Now that may be a big call, but we are making it and sticking to it! These people, that are the TM creators and designers, rock our world daily, and the very least we can do is support them.
Humility, we have come to learn, is a blindingly powerful trait amoungst the creators and designers we work with. Coming from outside of Japan, I am used to the lay-your-cards-on-the-table kind of style. The here-is-what-I've-got-take-it-or-leave-it style. Or the pushy, self-selling what-i-have-got-is-what-you-want style. Cultural differences can sometimes, not always, be a breath of fresh city air!
The style we so happily have to put up with here is more of a you-watch-and-wait-and-in-time-i-will-reveal-my-full-greatness-to-you. No that is not a line from Karate Kid 2 and it has never been verbally relayed that way, but it is the vibe. Patience my friend in time you shall see! I am greedy sometimes but I can wait it out.
The perfect example of this is Eshimasa and Tomokuni. These guys just keep on coming up with the goods and surprising us with their talents. Airbrushing a human canvas and freestyling a monster wall while perched on a very tiny step ladder was a pretty impressive feat at Tokyo Design Festa, there are no limits to their coolness.
And in time my friend you shall see so much more of it, all in good time...
